The Children’s Learning Center at College of Lake County (CLC)’s Lakeshore Campus in Waukegan has re-earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)—the world's largest organization working on behalf of young children.
Less than 10 percent of all national child care centers, preschools and kindergartens achieve this recognition.
NAEYC Accreditation is a rigorous and transformative quality-improvement system that collaborates with early education programs to recognize and drive quality-improvement in high-quality early learning environments.
“The Children’s Learning Center Program administration and teachers are committed to upholding the mark of quality represented by the NAEYC Accreditation system,” said Carlotta Conley, director of CLC’s Children’s Learning Center.
For CLC, earning the accreditation helps prove to students and the public that their children are getting the best care possible.
“The administration and teaching staff are proud and honored to demonstrate our commitment to providing quality care and education to the families of CLC and the surrounding community by achieving this accreditation,” Conley said.
To earn accreditation, CLC went through an extensive self-study and quality improvement process, as well as an on-site visit by NAEYC assessors to ensure the program met the correct standards.
The Grayslake Campus Children’s Learning Center is also accredited by the NAEYC. The accreditation term lasts for five years.
Thanks to the U.S. Department of Education’s Childcare Access Mean Parents in School (CCAMPIS) grant, CLC can continue to provide a subsidy for the cost of childcare for 50 low-income student-parents a year at the Grayslake and Lakeshore Campuses over four years.
The children’s learning centers offer affordable year-round care for children ages 2-5, and for school-age children up to age 12 during the summer. Children are enrolled to accommodate their parents’ class, study and work schedules. For more information, contact the Children’s Learning Center at (847) 543-2053.
