by Public Relations and Marketing | Published Nov 11, 2022

Did you know that College of Lake County (CLC) reaches beyond the local community and into the international world? International Education Week runs from Nov. 14-18 to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide.

Students in the international students club sitting around a table“Each year we take one week to celebrate what our international students bring to our campuses,” said Director of Student Records and Global Engagement Dr. Jacob Cushing. “We celebrate our study abroad programs, the engaged faculty who make global opportunities possible and everything CLC does to produce students who are global citizens.”

The Department of Global Engagement has several events lined up throughout that week. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Thursday at the Grayslake Campus, a table will be available with information about the Friendship Families program and the Global Citizenship Milestone, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be an opportunity to learn about study abroad programs. Other events include:

  • Monday, Nov. 14: Free samples of international coffees and teas from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 15: International Student Poster Fair from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 16: Chopstick challenge and global bingo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Thursday, Nov. 17: Learn how to dance bachata, salsa and merengue from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

At the Southlake Campus in Vernon Hills, CLC will hold a celebration of India from 12 to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17. The event will focus on Kathak, an ancient Indian classical dance, that integrates elements of dance, music and dramatic storytelling. Hear about the history of this dance, relish in a live performance and dance lesson from the Gauri Jog’s Indian Dance School while enjoying some savory Indian cuisine.

“Throughout International Education Week, we ask that everyone take time to reflect on and appreciate what we all bring to the table,” said Cushing. “Let's continue to foster the sense of belonging necessary for all of our students to be successful and productive members of our global society.”
