Actors needed May 15-16 for “Schoolhouse Rock Live” auditions

Actors aged 13 and older are invited to audition for the College of Lake County (CLC) Theatre Department’s production of “Schoolhouse Rock Live.” Auditions are at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 15 and Tuesday, May 16 in the Grayslake Studio Theatre.

Schoolhouse Rock Live logoA pop culture phenomenon, Schoolhouse Rock is an Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math and more through clever, catchy songs now comes to the musical stage. Schoolhouse Rock Live! follows Tom, a schoolteacher who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such songs as "Just a Bill," "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly" and "Conjunction Junction."

Those auditioning need to prepare one minute of a song from “Schoolhouse Rock Live” or from a show with a similar style of music and a one-minute memorized monologue of your choice. Piano accompanist will be provided. Actors need only attend one day of auditions and should bring an acting resumé if they have one. Callbacks are 6:30-10 p.m. on Thursday, May 18.

Rehearsals begin Wednesday, May 24. Rehearsals are Monday through Thursday evenings until tech and dress rehearsals, which are July 7-13. Performances are July 14-16 and 20-23. Actors should have these dates free before auditioning.
