by Public Relations and Marketing | Published May 05, 2023

College of Lake County (CLC) invites community members to enjoy the arts this spring during the free Voices of Lake County: Lake County@Work Spring Art and Performance Showcase and reception Friday, May 12 at the Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art and the Studio Theatre at the Grayslake Campus.

Voices of Lake County promoThe gallery reception is from 5-7:30 p.m. and will include snacks and beverages.

The art showcase features work created by community members during the Community Engagement and Outreach in the Visual Arts workshops and class projects engaging with the Lake County@Work theme.

Lake County@Work is a year-exploration of labor and work within Lake County through the lens of the arts and humanities.

“Through a series of multidisciplinary creative projects, participants in the Lake County@Work project reflected on how our work shapes our identities, and we critically examined how our relationship with work is changing, especially as we emerge from the pandemic,” said English Instructor and member of the Voices of Lake County committee Laura Otto. “The goal was to create a vision for what the future of work could be or should be.”

Following the art showcase, head over to the Studio Theatre at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. for a free performing art showcase in conjunction with the Grayslake Performing Arts Collaborative incorporating music, dance, movement, spoken word, prose and poetry created by CLC faculty and students and community members.

In addition to the performance, participants from CLC’s free Community Writing Workshops will read nonfiction narratives related to the theme of “work,” which will be recorded and turned into a CLC segment aired on Lancer Radio.

Both events are free and open to the public. To register, visit https://bit.ly/SpringShowcase23
