Meet Course Prerequisites and Corequisites

Many courses have prerequisites or corequisites that are required because specific knowledge or skills are needed to succeed in the course. See the Course Descriptions (PDF) for details on the prerequisites required for courses.

Courses Taken at Another College/University

If you have taken prerequisite courses at another institution:

Submit the Prerequisite Verification Request form and an official or unofficial transcript together to CLC’s Office of Student Records in one of the following ways:

  • Fax: (847) 543-3012
  • Email:
  • Mail: Student Records, College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake, IL 60030
  • In person: Room B101 at Grayslake Campus, College of Lake County,
    19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake, IL 60030

You must submit the prerequisite verification request form and transcript together, or your documents will not be processed.

Transcript requirements

Your transcript must include your name, the school’s name and the course being used to meet the prerequisite. If you wish to meet a prerequisite with a current course not yet on your transcript, please include proof of your enrollment (for example, a letter from your instructor or a copy of your current class schedule). To avoid being dropped from your CLC class, you must send the Office of Student Records an updated transcript showing the completion of this course, and your grade, no later than the Monday prior to the start of the term at CLC.

Credit for Prior Learning

Testing to Meet Foreign Language Prerequisites

Certain foreign language (Spanish and German) prerequisites may be met by taking a placement exam, at no charge in the Testing Center.
