Grayslake campus

Wondering where to go to relax, study or hang out with friends? Whether you’re looking for a quiet nook or a lively place to grab something to eat, there’s a spot for you! Wi-Fi is available throughout all three campuses.

A, B and C Wings

Café Willow—Enjoy meals and snacks, including fresh vegetables grown on campus, in this sunlit café that overlooks Willow Lake. Learn more about food services at

Student Commons—Located near the entrance to Café Willow, this area offers couches, comfortable chairs and tables to relax or meet friends. Charge up your phone or mobile device at electrical outlets.  

Student Street—This hallway, leading to the Student Commons, is a popular gathering spot for activities fairs, college visits and more. Check news headlines and campus events on the flat screen monitors. Located on this central corridor is the Student Activities and Inclusion Office in Room B106.

Courts—In the center of the B Wing, gather at comfortable chairs and small tables to meet with friends. This court is designed to engage with various student experiences where you may find events and other social opportunities. This court also has an ATM, three vending machines and handy access to the LancerZone campus store, which carries schools supplies, snacks, gifts, cards and Lancer spiritwear. The Dean of Student Life is also located in this court to assist in any student needs.

Library and Technology Wings

Atrium —Located next to the library entrance, the Atrium includes chairs and tables for small gatherings. On the second floor, quiet-study tables overlook the Atrium, and a three-table nook on the west end is a popular spot for gaming, card playing and socializing. Enjoy sunsets from the picture window.

Library—With three floors, the library offers many gathering spots, some of which have sunlit, south-facing views of Willow Lake, including the Esper A. Peterson Reading Room next to the art gallery. Reserve a study room online or gather with fellow students at tables to work on group projects. There is also space on the second floor designated for quiet study.

T Wing—Benches and thick, padded chairs offer a place to sit and study or talk to friends. Large windows allow sunlight to stream onto the top three floors.

Outdoor social spaces

Japanese Garden—Study outside or hang out with friends near the gentle stream in the Japanese Garden (accessible from the T building and Atrium).

Lawns—North of the T Wing, the lawn is open for spontaneous pick-up games such as Frisbee or touch football. South of the Horticulture building, enjoy the arboretum’s shade trees and a view of Gages Lake.

Physical Education CenterThe lobby has tables and chairs where you can study, talk to friends or grab a soft drink and snack from the vending machines after a workout.

Nature Trail—On this walking path that surrounds the Grayslake Campus, enjoy views of Willow Lake, Gages Lake, wetlands, a restored prairie and nearly 200 species of trees in the arboretum.

Lakeshore Campus

In the heart of downtown Waukegan, the North Building at 111 North Genesee Street has a Student Life Center with a pool table, TV, vending machines and couches. The South Building (33 North Genesee Street) also has vending machines, and the 1 North Genesee Street building has soft couches in the lower level. Also enjoy downtown restaurants, Genesee Theatre events and inspiring views of Lake Michigan. Read more about Lakeshore.

Southlake Campus

Study or hang out with friends in the sunlit atrium. Library tables are available for quiet study groups. A coffee chain and several restaurants are less than five minutes from campus. Read more about Southlake.
