Our Mission

To facilitate global engagement and advance international education among CLC students, faculty and staff through the support of international students, global experiences, educational exchanges, programs and services.

Our Vision

The Department of Global Engagement (DGE) will ensure all CLC students are inspired to serve as global citizens and productive members of our global society through the exposure to local and international education opportunities as part of their CLC journey.

Meet the Staff

Dr. Cushing has been involved with international education for over a decade. In his role as the Director of Global Engagement, Jacob performs a broad range of duties to meet the needs of CLC international and study abroad students, in addition to spearheading curricular internationalization efforts and faculty development. Jacob serves as the College’s PDSO and RO and leads all study abroad initiatives, internationalization strategies, and any and all development of international partnerships and agreements. Jacob has extensive international travel experience and has lived and worked abroad. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History, a Master of Arts in Education from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, and an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration and Community College Leadership from Northern Illinois University.

Colleen Gray graduated with a M.A. in Anthropology with a concentration Southeast Asian Studies. Her research looks at the relationships between NGOs and the Malaysian government. Previously, Gray worked at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at Northern Illinois University as the Outreach Coordinator as well as the Director of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) program supported by the Department of State. She has studied abroad and lived throughout Southeast Asia.

A native of Cleveland, OH, Lindsey serves as the International Student Navigator and Designated School Official (DSO) for the Department of Global Engagement. She has been working in international education for over 5 years in recruitment, study abroad, and advising and supporting F-1 and J-1 students. As a 2015-2016 Fulbright U.S. Student Scholar in China, Lindsey studied Mandarin and researched the pre-arrival experience of Chinese students headed to the U.S. Lindsey earned her B.S. in Marketing Management at Grove City College and M.Ed. in Adult Learning and Development at Cleveland State University. She is passionate about supporting international students and creating meaningful connections during their time in the United States.

As a native of Lake County, Violeta serves as the Senior Administrative Assistant at the Department of Global Engagement. She has been involved in international education for the past six years. As a first-generation undergraduate, she studied abroad three times in East Asia and is an advocate for international students. Violeta graduated with a bachelor's degree in Global Studies with a concentration on international security from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She also completed a minor in Mandarin Chinese thanks to the Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowship program and completed a Peace Studies & Conflict Resolution undergraduate certificate.

Global Engagement Committee

This committee meets regularly to advise, assist and promote projects and programs of the Department of Global Engagement. They also assist the Department's staff to determine recipients for scholarships, grants and candidates for exchanges and teaching abroad.
