Communication Arts, Humanities and Fine Arts Division Presents

Community Outreach and Engagement in the Visual Arts

CLC's Community Art Engagement & Outreach workshops are part of an arts-integrated community outreach program through the Communication Arts, Humanities and Fine Arts Division. We are proud to be in the second year of this growing program. Our outreach efforts include four E.A.S.E. workshops, four A.T.A. workshops, several rotating small exhibits at Lakeshore Campus, and a large art exhibit at the Robert Wright Gallery at Grayslake Campus in May, which all are invited to participate in. Free Art Kits encourage attendees to continue creating and connect to CLC and Waukegan's art community through art, social media, and hashtags. Workshops emphasize creativity, process, and expression over perfection.

Youth Workshops

These four dynamic workshops are geared towards youth, teens, and their families but welcome all ages. They are led by CLC Student Workers who serve as" Community Art Apprentices" and. Katrina Davis-Salazar, the Community Art Engagement & Outreach Coordinator. Those closest to this project have enjoyed watching people from age 10 to 83, from all cultures, races, and socioeconomic groups work side by side, all the while truly understanding the importance and necessity of the arts.

EASE aims to:

  • introduce youth to the idea that a career and education in the arts is possible.
  • provide the space, time, supplies and instructors to facilitate art making.
  • inspire natural mentor/mentee relationships.
  • encourage youth to continue lifelong connection to the arts.

Who can sign up?

  • Participants must be registered through the form below. First come, first serve. Free EASE workshops are geared towards youth, teens, and their families but strongly welcome all ages. Those under 14 should be accompanied by an adult family member.)

Adult Workshops

With the leadership of the Communication Arts, Humanities and Fine Arts Division and the support of our Waukegan partners, CLC Instructors and Artists are paired with visiting community artists to engage Waukegan residents and artists to create workshops with engaging themes and diverse art techniques. Four workshops per year focus on collaboration between artists, visibility, connection, and expression.

ATA aims to:

  • provide quality art programming and supplies for the community and its many artists.
  • highlight Waukegan as an arts center and provide opportunities for artists of Waukegan and beyond.
  • encourage adults to make art every day.
  • connect the community to CLC through art programming.
  • demonstrate CLC’s commitment to Waukegan and Lake County.

Who can sign up?

Participants must be registered. First come, first serve. Free “Artist to Artist” workshops are geared towards adults but open to participants ages 14 and up (or younger if accompanied by adult family member.)
