Feb. 23-March 2: Performances of “The Mountaintop”
Published January 31, 2024The College of Lake County (CLC) theatre department climbs to new heights with performances of “The Mountaintop” by Katori Hall.
“The presentation of this play is representative of the theatre department’s continued commitment to engage audiences with culturally relevant works that are reflective of our diverse student body,” said co-director and CLC instructor Lamaiya Lancaster. “It is important for our students to see themselves reflected and celebrated on stage both as participants in the process as well as patrons in the audience.”
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24, 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25 and 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday Feb. 29 to March 2. The play contains some adult language and may not be suitable for children.
“The Mountaintop” is a gripping reimagination of events the night before the assassination of the civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On April 3, 1968, after delivering one of his most memorable speeches, an exhausted Dr. King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel while a storm rages outside. When a mysterious stranger arrives with some surprising news, King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy to his people.
