CLC unleashes “Evil Dead The Musical” this July
Published June 20, 2024College of Lake County (CLC) brings the classic cult film to life on stage in one of the craziest, funniest and bloodiest theatrical experiences with “Evil Dead The Musical.” Book and lyrics are by George Reinblatt, and the music is by Reinblatt, Frank Cipolla, Christopher Bond and Melissa Morris.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 12; Saturday, July 13 and Thursday-Saturday July 18-20 and 2 p.m. Sundays, July 14 and 21 in the studio theatre at the Grayslake Campus. While extremely hilarious, this show contains adult language, sexual language and adult themes. It’s rated “R” and may not be appropriate for children.
“I think this musical is a great opportunity for audiences to lose themselves in the laugh out loud over-the-top hilarity of a cult-classic franchise,” said Director Brian Gill. “This musical has everything: action, comedy, romance and plenty of blood.”
Based on characters created by Sam Raimi, the story follows five college students who go to an abandoned cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them all into demons. It’s all up to Ash (a housewares employee, turned demon-killing hero), and his trusty chainsaw to save the day. “Evil Dead The Musical” will have audiences rolling in their seats and screaming for more.
"This production highlights the music, acting and dance skills of the performers which illustrates the collaborative nature and commitment to providing interdisciplinary opportunities within the performing arts at CLC," said Choreographer Lamaiya Lancaster.
