Adult Literacy and ESL

You can count on your helpful neighbor College of Lake County for many things. Our Adult Education program will help you build basic competency in reading, writing and math; complete your high school education; or learn English—free of charge.

All of CLC’s Adult Education classes are open to residents of Lake County. If you are on a short-term visit to the United States or here under a B1, B2, F1, F2, J1 or J2 visa, you are not eligible. If you are younger than 18 years old, you must meet additional requirements and register with an official Secondary School Reference Form signed by your local high school authorized representative.

Adult Education Transition to Careers

The Adult Basic Education, GED and ESL division helps students succeed by assisting them with:

  • Setting goals
  • Completing Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language and GED classes
  • Transitioning to CLC career certificate or transfer courses
  • Job searching

In this video, former CLC Adult Education students discuss their experience moving from ESL and GED classes into five career programs: Administrative Office Systems, Certified Nursing Assisting, Hospitality and Culinary Management, HVAC Technician and Phlebotomy.
