Are there study guides or prep classes available for any of the CLC challenge exams?

There are not specific study guides or prep classes available for CLC challenge exams. However, CLC faculty and academic division staff are happy to meet with you to discuss the type of information that will be part of the challenge exam offered.

I have college credits from another institution. How do I get those credits transferred to CLC?

The Office of the Registrar and Records can assist with that process. Visit the Student Records Forms page for more information on transferring credits from another college or university.

Can I get credit for any subject?

Credit for prior learning is only offered for certain subjects, although the College of Lake County works to make sure there are a variety of ways available to students. The list of general education courses is a good resource as is the list of courses by program.

What does using credit for prior learning cost?

Each of the exam options have associated fees – please refer to the CLEP, DSST, and Challenge Exam pages for those fees. Credential review is completed at no cost and there is not a charge to document the credit on the college transcript.

Are there other rules associated with this process?

Yes, the college catalog outlines specific guidelines related to the number of credits and residency. Specific programs may also have guidelines related to the credentials they accept for credit.
