Protective Services

These courses will prepare you or provide continuing training for a career in protective services. Each 20-hour course meets the training requirements of the Illinois Private Detective, Private Security, and Private Alarm Act.

Summer 2021 Course Descriptions and Schedule Information

Please Note: We are committed to the safety and security of online instruction and are constantly adapting to offer the best experience for all users. To help ensure security during Zoom webinars, a password to enter the Zoom session will be provided to assist with these measures.

Course Prerequisites and Special Notes

Security guards and private investigators in Illinois are required to obtain a PERC card through the IDFPR. See the links below for more information and the PERC application.

Completion of at least one of the basic training courses or possession of a current PERC is required to complete Firearms Training. Students who are IL residents must have a current FOID card for participation in any firearms course.

Current Armed Security Officers may complete their annual weapon re-qualification per Illinois State requirements by attending the last two days of the Security Officer Firearms Training course. Enrollment for this program is by department consent.
