Overview
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits sex discrimination in education programs and activities at all schools, including colleges and universities, that receive federal funding. Sex discrimination includes sexual harassment and sexual and gender-based violence. Sex discrimination is never acceptable and is a violation of College of Lake County policy as well as state and federal law.
CLC’s Title IX services include:
- Maintaining an institutional commitment to non-discrimination. CLC is committed to maintaining a respectful and professional academic and work environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This includes having an environment free from sexual misconduct and interpersonal violence. This applies to all settings and activities of the College, whether on campus property or off, if the misconduct adversely affects the health, safety, or security of any member of the college community or the interests of the college. This covers all students, employees and other individuals who have a relationship with CLC that enables the College to exercise some control over the individual’s conduct in places and activities that relate to the College’s work.
- Engaging in investigative inquiry and resolution of complaints that are prompt, fair, equitable and independent of other investigations that may occur, and providing due process to those involved in a complaint that is reported through the College’s reporting process.
- Educating the campus community and disseminating established Title IX Policy (PDF), procedures and best practices. CLC does this to preserve campus safety and ensure compliance with federal laws against sex discrimination, including sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking.
- Providing College policy, procedures and written explanation of the rights and options available to students and employees involved in a complaint of sex-based misconduct.
- Holding persons accountable for violations of CLC’s Sexual Misconduct and Title IX policy and procedures.
- Providing prevention and education training and ongoing awareness programs for students, employees and the CLC community.
- Providing campus and community resources and referrals for involved parties of sex discrimination and sex-based misconduct.
- Providing campus and community resources and referrals for pregnant and/or parenting students and ensuring their rights are protected.
- CLC offers Title IX training to all Title IX Coordinators, Deputy Coordinators, Investigators, and Decision Makers, found on the Association of Title IX Administrators (ATIXA) website.
