Welcome to the CLC Tutoring Center. We offer in-person and online options to support your tutoring needs. This semester we’re even available on weekends!

If you are a registered CLC student and unable to see the Canvas card, follow these steps to enroll in the Tutoring Center.
We invite you to take advantage of these tutoring services during Fall 2021.
Face-to-face tutoring is available at all campuses. You’re welcome to drop in to any tutoring center during hours that we’re open. Operating hours for each campus are posted at left.
For writing help, either in-person or online, we invite you to make an appointment first. Reserve time using the new Navigate student success program. You can access Navigate and instructions how to use it through the myCLC portal or the Tutoring Center Canvas card.
All online subject tutoring and most online writing tutoring is via Zoom. Google Docs Chat is an option if you’re working on a writing assignment.
Online tutoring is available every day during the following times.
Monday through Thursday: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (writing in any course ); 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. (subject tutoring)
Friday: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (writing in any course); 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (subject tutoring)
Saturday: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sunday: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Remember: scheduling an appointment in advance to work online with a writing tutor is the best way to make sure you’ll get the help you need when you need it!
You’re welcome to submit writing assignments to get tutor feedback in writing. You’ll get a response within 24 hours, with turnaround times usually less. The Writing Center Canvas card has instructions how to use this service.
We have resources to meet your technology needs. If you need access to technology in order to get online tutoring, please visit any of our centers. To borrow a laptop, hotspot, or calculator during the semester, please contact the CLC Library.
Tutoring services are for CLC students enrolled in classes during the Fall 2021 semester. We welcome students enrolled in Adult Education classes, including those pursuing high school equivalency through GED and similar programs.
Not all subjects are tutored at all times that tutoring centers are open. Please check our detailed tutoring schedules in our Canvas card for specific tutoring times and locations by subject.
The tutoring centers are not open on days when there are no classes. We will be closed November 24-28 (Thanksgiving break).

Sharpen your academic skills at CLC tutoring centers! CLC offers comprehensive tutoring to help you achieve academic success. Tutoring can improve academic performance, build confidence and enhance your learning. Our centers serve all enrolled students, including those in Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary education and ESL classes.
The CLC Tutoring Center creates equitable and encouraging learning environments which advance student learning through high-quality, student-centered academic support. Peer-to-peer and professional assistance through individual and small group collaboration promote student success and empowerment.
The CLC Tutoring Center equips students to be confident learners who are able to access available resources in order to achieve their academic goals.
Across CLC’s three campuses, more than 100 student peers and professional tutors are available to help you with homework and prepare for tests.
CLC offers tutoring in core subject areas including:
We actively support writing across the curriculum. That means that help is available not only for all levels of English courses, but also in relation to any course that has a writing component, including communications, humanities, political science, psychology and sociology.
Basic computer skills tutoring is offered at all tutoring centers and includes refreshers on technology use. Appointments are not necessary, but we encourage students who want help to reserve time in advance.
Part of the student comprehensive fee supports tutoring at CLC. There are no additional charges. Beyond the fee, it costs you nothing to get quality tutoring, no matter how often you visit.
It's easy to get tutoring help at CLC: Simply drop in to a tutoring center! You don't need to make an appointment for tutoring in math, science, or accounting. We help on a first come, first served basis. We strongly encourage you to make an appointment for tutoring in writing and computer skills but drop-ins are also welcome. Contact your preferred tutoring center to arrange a time.
No matter where you take classes, the welcome mat is out at all of our tutoring centers. Visit the center most convenient to you in terms of location, hours of operation, or tutor availability. Because Grayslake offers more specialized and upper level courses than either Southlake or Lakeshore, tutors for these courses are based mostly at the main campus.
You're welcome to use CLC tutoring centers for independent and small group study. Laptops or desktop computers are available for conducting research, completing course work on line, and preparing assignments. If you're working on a writing project, resources include dictionaries, guides, and popular reference works. At Lakeshore campus, you'll find a small selection of fiction and nonfiction works that you're welcome to borrow.
