2019 Commencement


Morning Ceremony

Transfer Associate Degrees (A.A., A.S., A.E.S., A.F.A., A.A.T.)

  • 9 a.m. - Graduates check in and line up
  • 10 a.m. - Ceremony begins

Afternoon Ceremony

Associate in Applied Science Degrees, A.G.S. Degrees and Certificates

  • 1 p.m. - Graduates check in and line up
  • 2 p.m. - Ceremony begins

Each ceremony is approximately two hours long. Graduates should make sure they arrive at the check-in and line-up time listed above. The procession line up begins approximately 20 minutes prior to the scheduled ceremony start time. Graduates who arrive after the procession line up begins will not be guaranteed participation.

*Students should submit their petition by the Spring petition deadline of February 15, including students planning to graduate Summer Term. Students who petition after this deadline will have less time to register, may have late registration fees, and may not be included in the commencement program. Late petitions are reviewed on an individual basis.

**Students who register late will receive a bulk order gown. Bulk order gowns are provided on a first-come first-served basis. Sizes and availability are not guaranteed. Alterations may be necessary, and are the student’s responsibility.

Students who do not register for commencement AND complete their regalia (Cap, Gown and Tassel) order by the final deadline will not be eligible to participate in the ceremony.

Costs

  • $25 - This includes your cap, gown, tassel and diploma cover for the ceremony
  • $10 - Late fee added to orders submitted after open registration deadline

Financial Aid including student loans will NOT cover the commencement fee. Financial Aid students are responsible for paying commencement costs. Illinois Veteran Scholarship recipients should contact Veteran Student Services at (847) 543-2018 or veterans@clcillinois.edu for a voucher.

Students must submit a Petition for Graduation to participate in the ceremony. Students who receive auto-awarded degrees and certificates are not eligible to participate. Students must earn CLC college credit. In progress courses may be used provided they are for the spring semester immediately preceding the ceremony. Transfer credit, credit for prior learning, and courses from terms following the ceremony may not be used towards this requirement.

Steps to Participate

  • Step 1: After you receive your invitation register for commencement in myStudentCenter: enroll in the course GRAD 999, then complete your registration with the Commencement Registration tile. For details about how to register for Grad 999, click here.
  • Step 2: Pay the commencement fee. Payment can be made online or in person at one of our campuses.
    Failure to pay the commencement fee will result in a hold on your account. You will not be able to enroll or order official transcripts until this debt is cleared.
    Financial Aid including student loans will NOT cover the commencement fee.
  • Step 3: Pick up your regalia (cap, gown and tassel) on May 15 to 16. Details about location and times will be sent to your CLC student email.
    Check your CLC student email often for updates about the ceremony!
  • Step 4: Celebrate! Join us on Commencement day to honor your accomplishment!

Ceremony Guidelines

  • Balloons are not permitted in the Physical Education Center.
  • Graduates should wear comfortable shoes to assist with ease of crossing the stage and managing stairs, as well as standing for a long period of time. Stiletto shoes are strongly discouraged to reduce Physical Education Center floor damage.
  • Graduates should leave all personal belongings with family members or guests. There are no provisions in the check-in area for coats, handbags or other valuable personal items. CLC staff will not be responsible for lost or stolen belongings.
  • Please silence your cell phones during the ceremony.
  • Children must be supervised at all times.
  • Guests, including children, are not allowed in the check-in area and cannot sit or walk with graduates.

Graduates are responsible for ensuring their guests follow the ceremony guidelines.

Regalia (Caps, Gowns and Tassels)

All students participating in the commencement ceremony will be required to wear the academic regalia significant to their program of study. Students will receive one cap, one gown and one tassel. Students who are earning multiple degrees or certificates must choose one program of study for participation.

You will be asked for your height and weight measurements after you register for commencement. Caps are one-size-fits-all up to size 7½. Caps, gowns and tassels are yours to keep following the ceremony.

  • Commencement regalia will be worn by all graduates. Gowns cannot be re-used from other schools or years.
  • Graduates must wear the tassel provided with their gown. Multiple tassels during the ceremony are not allowed. Non-program tassels, including Phi Theta Kappa tassels, are not permitted. 
  • College issued Commencement Honors cords and Veterans cords, and international stoles may be worn at the ceremony.
  • College approved stoles and adornments may be worn. All decorations must be approved prior to the ceremony. Contact Student Life at (847) 543-2280 for details. 

Caps and gowns must be picked up on Wednesday, May 15 or Thursday, May 16.  Please check your CLC email for pick-up location, times and directions. Students who do not pick up their regalia may not be able to participate in the ceremony.

Diplomas

Diploma covers will be handed to graduates as part of the commencement ceremony. Each student will be given one diploma cover. Actual diplomas will be mailed to the student after the degree/certificate has been conferred. Diploma processing can take 3-4 weeks. Students should verify their address on file is current.

Photographs

Central Valley Studios will be photographing every student as you cross the stage at the ceremony, at no obligation. Proofs will be mailed to your address on file following the ceremony. Go to www.cvstudios.com or call (877) 446-2196 for more information.

There will be photography areas located in the gymnasium for guests to take pictures during the ceremony. Please use these areas to prevent blocking other guests’ view of the stage. As a courtesy to others guests are asked to exit the building after the ceremony.

Commencement Honors

The Office of Registrar and Records compiles the Commencement Honors list as part of the commencement program. To be recognized for honors, students must have completed 30 credits at CLC by the end of the 2017 Fall Semester with a cumulative GPA of:

Honors GPA
Honors: 3.00 - 3.49
High Honors: 3.50 - 3.74
Highest Honors: 3.75 - 4.00

The event is wheelchair accessible. The ceremony will be captioned and Sign Language Interpreters will be provided. For other assistance, please contact the Office of Students with Disabilities so that necessary arrangements may be made.
