2017 Commencement


Morning Ceremony–Transfer Associate Degrees (A.A., A.S., A.E.S., A.F.A., A.A.T.)

  • 9 a.m. - Graduates check in and line up
  • 10 a.m. - Ceremony begins

Afternoon Ceremony – Associate in Applied Science Degrees and Career Certificates

  • 1 p.m. - Graduates check in and line up
  • 2 p.m. - Ceremony begins

Each ceremony is approximately two hours long. Graduates should make sure they arrive at the check in and line up time listed above.  The procession line up begins approximately 20 minutes prior to the scheduled ceremony start time. Graduates who arrive after the procession line up begins will not be guaranteed participation.

*To participate in the commencement ceremony, students should submit a Petition to Graduate by the Spring petition deadline of February 15. This includes students planning to graduate Summer Term. Students who petition after this deadline will still be eligible to attend, but will have less time to register and may have late registration fees. Students can complete their petition online at

Students must have earned CLC college credit in order to participate in the commencement ceremony.  In progress courses may be used as earned credit provided they are for the Spring Semester immediately preceding the ceremony.  Transfer credit, credit for prior learning, and courses from semesters following the ceremony may not be used towards this requirement.

**Students who register late will receive a bulk order gown.  Bulk order gowns are provided on a first-come first-serve basis.  Sizes and availability are not guaranteed.  Alterations may be necessary, and are the student’s responsibility.

***Students who do not register for commencement AND complete their regalia (Cap, Gown, and Tassel) order by the final deadline will not be eligible to participate in the ceremony.


  • $25 - This includes your cap, gown and tassel for the commencement ceremony.
  • $10 - Late fee added to orders submitted after open registration deadline

Illinois Veteran Scholarship - Contact Financial Aid for your voucher and bring to Registrar and Records to complete your commencement registration.

The ceremony is open to the public and there is no charge for guests to attend.  Seating is available on a first-come basis. There are no tickets required.

Regalia (Caps, Gowns and Tassels)

All students participating in the commencement ceremony will be required to wear the academic regalia significant to their program of study.  Students will receive one cap, one gown, and one tassel.  Students who are earning multiple degrees or certificates must choose one program of study for participation.

You will be contacted for your height and weight measurements after you register for commencement. Caps are one-size-fits-all up to size 7½.  Caps, gowns and tassels are yours to keep following the ceremony.

  • Commencement regalia will be worn by all graduates and may not be altered, modified or decorated in any way.
  • College issued Commencement Honors cords may be worn at the ceremony.
  • Multiple tassels during the ceremony are not allowed.
  • Non-program tassels, including Phi Theta Kappa tassels, and unapproved adornments and stoles are not permitted.
  • Gowns cannot be re-used from other schools or years due to differences in dye lots.

Caps and gowns must be picked up on Wednesday, May 10 or Thursday, May 11.  Please check your CLC email for pick up location, times, and directions.

Ceremony Guidelines

  • Balloons are not permitted in the Physical Education Center building.  Please leave your balloons in the car.  CLC staff will not be responsible for lost or stolen balloons.
  • Graduates should wear comfortable shoes to assist with ease of crossing the stage and managing stairs, as well as standing for a long period of time.  Stiletto shoes are strongly discouraged to reduce Physical Education Center floor damage.
  • Graduates should leave all personal belongings with family members or friends. There are no provisions in the check in area for coats, handbags or other valuable personal items.
  • Please silence your cell phones during the ceremony.
  • Guests, including children, are not allowed in the check in area, and cannot sit or walk with graduates.
  • CLC is proud to be a smoke-free campus.


The event is wheelchair accessible. The ceremony will be captioned and Sign Language Interpreters will be provided. For other assistance, please contact the Office of Students with Disabilities, preferably 3 days prior to the ceremony, so that necessary arrangements may be made.


Central Valley Studios will be photographing every student as you cross the stage at the ceremony, at no obligation. Commencement Honors

Students who have earned at least 30 credits at CLC by the end of the fall semester immediately preceding the commencement ceremony will be recognized as receiving the following honors based upon cumulative GPA:

Honors GPA
Honors: 3.00 - 3.49
High Honors: 3.50 - 3.74
Highest Honors: 3.75 - 4.00

The Office of Registrar and Records compiles the Commencement Honors list as part of the commencement program.

Late Petitions

Students who submit their Petition to Graduate after the deadline and wish to participate in the commencement ceremony will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Students must submit a written letter of appeal to the Office of Registrar and Records for consideration. Approval of appeals is based on timing, capacity, and resources. Decisions will be sent via email after the registration deadline. Please note that we cannot guarantee approval for these requests.
