Assessment at CLC

We want students to learn the things that matter in their chosen careers and to their transfer institutions. We want to do better—and then better again—at helping them learn.

We are committed to continuous improvement. We learn how and where we need to improve through a regular and systematic cycle that includes:

Identifying learning outcomes clearly
Communicating learning outcomes and expectations
Assessing what students have learned
Monitoring student achievement
Analyzing the evidence of achievement
Implementing improvements

We monitor student achievement at every level—within courses, in departments and across the institution. Therefore, faculty lead our efforts through the Assessment of Student Learning Committee.

Learning outcomes tracked at CLC

CLC aims to improve student learning outcomes. Each semester, it explores how students perform in the classroom. It uses this information to help students learn better, such as by introducing new resources, services or curriculum.

The college reviews learning outcomes every few years. This way, the needs of employers and transfer colleges are continually met.

Students work together and contribute in groups to achieve shared goals.
Students identify issues, ask good questions, and analyze evidence. They make well-reasoned judgments and conclusions.
Students assess conscious and subconscious biases. They understand the root causes of social inequities. They examine positions of power and privilege. They work to help cultivate an inclusive, equitable, and antiracist society.
Students find, analyze, summarize and document information. They do this to support a hypothesis, thesis or position.
Students engage in oral presentations and discussions using appropriate delivery and style.
Students understand numerical data. They solve quantitative problems and apply mathematical reasoning to academic and everyday situations.
Students identify the interconnected aspects of creating a more just and sustainable future. These include social, economic and environmental issues.
Students create various forms of written communication, which attend to audience and purpose. When applicable, they incorporate and respond to the ideas of others.
