Eligibility

To facilitate inclusion and equity, the Access and Disability Resource Center (ADRC), the ADA Coordinator and the Accessibility and Inclusion Committee work together with the college community to find solutions that will ultimately support an accessible education and work environment for every individual.

To be eligible for academic accommodations through ADRC, students must register with our office and disclose their disability. Once an application and consent form are filed with our office, the student may provide ADRC with documented evidence of a disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended, and/or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Under those regulations, a person is considered an individual with a disability if the person:
- has a physical or mental impairment substantially limits one of more major life activities (e.g., walking, standing, seeing, speaking, hearing, sitting, breathing, reading, learning, thinking, performing manual tasks and taking care of oneself)
- has a record of such an impairment
- is regarded as having such an impairment
Accommodations at post-secondary institutions are not made based on diagnosis (or having a disability) but more on how the disability substantially affects the individual. 
Accommodations are made on an individual basis as an interactive process between the ADRC and the current CLC student. For more information, contact ADRC@clcillinois.edu.

Privacy

Our staff maintains the highest privacy standards.

As documentation concerning disabilities is personal and private, it is kept in the Access and Disability Resource Center, separate from other school records. The ADRC does not, and cannot, discuss a student’s disability with anyone without permission from the student, except when required by law or when student safety is of concern.

Students are always encouraged to discuss required accommodations with their instructors, however, students are never legally obligated to disclose the disability to their instructor.

Services

Testing accommodations – Depending on your disability, you may be eligible for testing accommodations. We recommend you contact your instructors at the start of the semester to discuss any approved testing accommodations.
Note-taking – If eligible, a student note taker would be assigned to provide a copy of notes from the class.
Accessible course materials – The ADRC can convert your textbooks to audio or PDF for enlargement so they may be made accessible.
Assistive Technology (AT)
Deaf/Hard of Hearing Services
Service animals – Defined as dogs, service animals are allowed in all public areas. The handler must be in full control of the dog. The dog must be on a leash or harness at all times, be clean, in good health and have current vaccinations. Please consult ADRC directly concerning non-service animals prior to bringing them on campus.

ADA compliance concerns & grievance procedures

Students/Visitors: The College complies with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
