Qualifying for Financial Aid

Federal requirements

To receive federal financial aid, you must meet several requirements, including:

Being a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
Certifying that you are not in default on a federal student loan, and that you do not owe money on a federal grant
Certifying that you will use federal aid only for educational purposes
Enrolling in an eligible program (16 credit hours or more) as a regular student seeking a degree or certificate
Having a high school diploma or general education development certificate or recognized equivalent
Having a valid Social Security number
Meeting the satisfactory academic progress standards set by the college

Fact: Many factors affect financial aid decisions. Some awards are not based on income. You should apply no matter your income.
Fact: Although some scholarships are awarded to students who have excelled in the classroom or in athletics, many scholarships are awarded for other reasons.
Fact: With handy websites and online forms, applying is easier—and less paper-clogged—than ever. CLC’s Financial Aid counselors offer advice and help you fill out forms. Stop by the Financial Aid Office. A friendly staff member will be happy to help you—and you don’t even have to be a CLC student.
