Qualifying for Financial Aid

Federal requirements

To receive federal financial aid, you must meet several requirements, including:

  • Being a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Certifying that you are not in default on a federal student loan, and that you do not owe money on a federal grant
  • Certifying that you will use federal aid only for educational purposes
  • Enrolling in an eligible program (16 credit hours or more) as a regular student seeking a degree or certificate
  • Having a high school diploma or general education development certificate or recognized equivalent
  • Having a valid Social Security number
  • Meeting the satisfactory academic progress standards set by the college
