Get ready for a big show packed with big hair, big talent and even bigger heart. The College of Lake County (CLC) theatre department is thrilled to announce its summer production of “Hairspray: The Broadway Musical,” set to dazzle audiences at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts. This vibrant, high-energy show will run from July 18 to July 27.

Set in 1962 Baltimore, “Hairspray” follows the spirited Tracy Turnblad, a teenager with big dreams and even bigger hair, as she dances her way onto the popular "Corny Collins Show." Her journey from outsider to star is filled with laughter, romance and a mission to integrate the TV network—all without denting her 'do! Winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, “Hairspray” is a celebration of individuality, unity and the power of dance.

“This musical is about understanding who the person is inside and not who they are on the outside—whether that’s the color of their skin, the size they are or the gender they are,” said Scott Metzger, director of the CLC production. “It’s bright and colorful fun, anyone who loves dancing, singing and rock and roll should see it.”
