College of Lake County (CLC) has appointed James Beckom as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Business Services and Finance, approved by the CLC Board of Trustees at its April 28 meeting.

Beckom is a seasoned finance executive with more than 25 years of progressive leadership across the pharmaceutical, life science and higher education sectors.

Since September 2025, Beckom has served as Interim CFO and Vice President of Business Services and Finance at CLC, where he has delivered steady, transparent leadership during a period of transition.

“I’m honored to continue serving CLC in this role where I reinforce financial stewardship, align resources to institutional priorities and support the college’s continued focus on operational effectiveness and long-term sustainability,” said Beckom. “I look forward to working with colleagues across the college to support our mission and ensure strong stewardship of resources that benefit our students and community.”

As CFO, Beckom will lead the college’s Business Services and Finance unit, overseeing financial operations and advancing initiatives that expand access and support student success. He brings a disciplined, results-driven approach, with a strong record of enhancing performance, streamlining operations, and leading in complex global environments. His expertise includes strategic financial decision-making, risk management, corporate finance, and operational leadership, with a focus on R&D investment and product commercialization.

The selection follows a comprehensive search process that included participation from faculty, staff, and leadership across the college. Feedback was gathered through open forums, interviews and engagement with the Business Services and Finance unit, unit directors and the College Leadership Team.

“Following a thoughtful and inclusive search process, James emerged as the top candidate,” said Vice President of Strategic Advancement Dr. Derrick Harden. “His leadership, experience and collaborative approach will help strengthen the college’s financial foundation and support student success across Lake County.”

Beckom’s appointment reflects CLC’s commitment to strong leadership and collaborative partnerships that drive institutional effectiveness and student outcomes.
