Oct. 29: Explore career pathways at Engineering Night
Published October 21, 2026
Students exploring careers in engineering can connect with industry professionals and college educators at College of Lake County’s (CLC) Engineering Night Thursday, Oct. 29 at the Grayslake Campus. The event will introduce attendees to engineering career paths and educational opportunities.
From 5:30-7 p.m. at Cafe Willow, students can speak with professional engineers to learn more about various engineering pathways. Tours of CLC’s Baxter Innovation Lab will be available every 15 minutes. Eleven four-year schools will have table displays set up during this time including UIC, UIUC, NIU, MSOE and more.
At 7 p.m. in the Cafe Willow, hear from CLC engineering instructors about the engineering college search process, with advice on how to research schools, the application process, choosing a major and more.
Students and their parents may attend two 30-minute breakout sessions from 7:30-8:40 p.m. to learn more about the participating college and university programs. The CLC Engineering Transfer program will host sessions in the Baxter Innovation Lab and will include information on guaranteed admission partnerships and scholarships.
Engineering and computer science students at CLC are eligible for National Science Foundation (NSF) S-STEM scholarships up to $5,500 per semester. The program is expanding to include a free bridge program beginning next summer. The Innovation Bridge will help students improve their math skills and prepare for college-level coursework.
“One strength of a community college is the ability to meet students where they are at in their education path,” said Engineering Department Chair Dr. Jan Edwards. “The Innovation Bridge will focus on academically talented, financially challenged students who are not yet calculus ready. It will provide the opportunity to strengthen their math skills as well as introduce engineering and programming applications at the makerspace.”
Attendees are advised to enter the campus from Washington St., park in lots 8 or 9 and enter the college’s T-Wing. Directions to the Grayslake Campus and a campus map are available online.
