The Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art is a major cultural resource for artists and Lake County residents. Established by the College of Lake County Foundation in 1981, the gallery promotes understanding and appreciation of the arts. We do so within CLC campuses and surrounding communities through educational and enriching exhibitions that feature cultural and artistic diversity.

Curated and collected

Three of the Gallery’s annual exhibits feature Lake County artists:

Fall: Recent Works, a juried competition for area artists with cash awards and purchase prizes
January: Group exhibit open to all Artist Members of the gallery
Spring: CLC Student Art Competition

Other exhibits throughout the year include critically acclaimed artists. Their diverse media and artistic approaches create the opportunity to broaden and perhaps even challenge us.

CLC’s permanent collection of pieces numbers more than 800. The collection includes works from significant Illinois, national and internationally recognized artists and reflects a diverse range of media and styles. View the pieces throughout the Grayslake, Lakeshore and Southlake Campuses for free. Remember to stop by the large, outdoor sculptures that grace the grounds of the Grayslake Campus.

Exhibition Proposals

The Robert T. Wright Gallery accepts individual and group exhibition proposals on a year round basis. Proposals are considered for the following academic year and beyond. Emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply. Applicants must provide the following:
- A statement of intent that includes the answer to the question, “Why do I make art?”
- A web link to the artist’s work or PDF file with 10-20 titled images. Also include a Word. doc or reference to the images with the artist’s name, title, year work made, medium and dimensions.
- A brief statement regarding your work.
- An artist's resume that includes an exhibition record.

The permanent collection may be seen in buildings on every CLC campus whenever they are open. Outdoor sculpture from the collection appears across the Grayslake Campus and may be seen during daylight hours.
The Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art is funded in part through Friends of the Gallery memberships. A $35 membership is valid for one year. Donations beyond your $35 membership are welcome and tax deductible.
