Now serving: CLC Theatre’s tastiest spring play yet
Published February 16, 2026
What does a quest to make the perfect sandwich have to do with freedom, redemption and carving out a place for yourself in this big, wide world? CLC Theatre’s spring production of Clyde’s just might have the answer for you.
Taking the James Lumber Center’s Studio stage on Feb. 27 and 28, March 1 and March 5–7, Clyde’s is bringing to life the story of a truck stop sandwich shop and its formerly incarcerated kitchen staff looking for a shot at redemption.
Even as the shop’s callous owner tries to keep them down, the staff members learn to reclaim their lives, find purpose, and become inspired to dream by their shared quest to create the perfect sandwich.
Written by Lynn Nottage, the only woman to have won the Pulitzer Prize twice, Clyde’s, like much of Nottage’s work, focuses on topics of gender, race and social class relations in America.
Variety calls this play a "flavor-bomb of a comedy about survival, second chances, and digesting whatever life serves up."
Returning co-director and dance instructor Lamaiya Lancaster says, "It has been a privilege to continue to work on productions that intentionally highlight and celebrate diverse voices, from the playwrights whose works are being presented to the students, staff and community members who are performing the work on stage.”
Delivering wholesome life lessons wrapped in deliciously witty comedy – you won’t want to miss this play when it’s delivered hot-and-fresh to the James Lumber Center stage!
