About the Program

Learn in-demand skills to setup, operate and program advanced manufacturing machine tools that produce a wide range of tooling, parts and products essential to our local and global economy.

Accredited by the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS), the Precision Machining Technology (PMT) career program prepares students for employment and advancement in the high-skilled, high-demand field of metalworking and machining.

Earn and learn as you go with stackable credentials. Start with a CNC Operator certificate, advance to a CNC Setup Technician then the CNC Programming Technician certificate. The certificates can then lead to finishing your associate degree in Precision Machining Technology.

Each credential leads to better career opportunities. The program options prepare students to interpret blueprints, use measuring tools, setup, operate and program various manual and HAAS/FANUC CNC controlled lathes, mills and Wire EDM machines. Upon completion of specified courses, be eligible to take national NIMS credentialing exams for an additional fee.

  • Tuition: $128 per credit hour (in-district for Fall 2022)
  • Estimated Tuition Cost per Semester: $1,536
    (12 credit hours)

Program Length

Connect & Succeed: Earn your Bachelor's degree at SIU through UCLC

Your associate degree can transfer seamlessly to Southern Illinois University (SIU). Stay in Grayslake and earn your Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management & Applied Engineering (IMAE) offered through University Center of Lake County (UCLC). The IMAE program lets you pursue your degree while working full time — classes are held online or in-person on alternate weekends.
