Exploring psychology in Japan

May 16 – 27, 2026

Learn the foundations of psychology at CLC. Then apply your learning in a culminating trip to Japan, where you'll discover how cultural contexts shape psychological theories and concepts.

The trip features one course for three credits total:

  • PSY 121 – Introduction to Psychology (3 credit hours)

Explore basic concepts and theoretical perspectives of psychology. Learn about the history of psychology, research methodology, the brain and factors affecting human behavior and mental processes. Topics covered include learning, memory, cognition, language, intelligence, development, personality, abnormal psychology, therapy and social psychology.

The course starts online the week of March 16 and culminates in the trip.

Cost: $5,250*

*Trip cost subject to change due to unanticipated changes in currency exchange rate, airline and accommodation variations.

Cost includes:

  • round-trip airfare
  • accommodation
  • insurance
  • some meals: breakfasts, welcome and farewell dinners
  • in-country transportation
  • cultural excursions/activities (as arranged for this program)

  • College of Lake County tuition and fees
  • passport fees
  • meals not specified

Have your passport ready, the contact information for two CLC instructors to serve as your references (must be different from the faculty leader), and a short statement of purpose to demonstrate why you’d like to study abroad in this program.

Apply Online via the Education Abroad Portal

After submitting your application, an in-person payment of $500 must promptly be made at the Welcome and One Stop Center to secure your spot. Then, faculty will schedule an interview with you to finalize the application process.

Withdrawal information: Your deposit and other fees are refundable if you withdraw from the program no later than December 5, 2025. Withdrawals must be made in writing and submitted to wwloch@clcillinois.edu.

Applicants will receive notice of acceptance into the program no later than December 11.
