Linguistics and society of Morocco
January 4 – 13, 2027
Immerse yourself in culture, educational and service-learning experiences across Morocco. Engage with local youth and community organizations, explore Morocco’s history and culture, and gain insight into contemporary social issues through conversations with Moroccan students, professionals and volunteers.
Take in Morocco’s diverse landscapes, traditions and communities. Visit historical landmarks, learn about Amazigh culture and rural cooperatives.
The trip features one course for three credits total:
- ENG 128 – Linguistics and Society (3 credit hours)
In this course, you'll study the nature of language acquisition and use within society. Learn the unique characteristics of human languages, how first and second languages are acquired, the connections between language, gender and ethnicity, and how attitudes about language influence society and politics.
The course starts online the week of January 19 and lasts 8 weeks.

Cost: $3,100*
*Trip cost subject to change due to unanticipated changes in currency exchange rate, airline and accommodation variations.

Have your passport ready, the contact information for two CLC instructors to serve as your references (must be different from the faculty leader), and a short statement of purpose to demonstrate why you’d like to study abroad in this program.
Apply Online via the Education Abroad Portal
After submitting your application, an in-person payment of $500 must promptly be made at the Welcome and One Stop Center to secure your spot. Then, faculty will schedule an interview with you to finalize the application process.
Withdrawal information: Your deposit and other fees are refundable if you withdraw from the program no later than September 25, 2026. Withdrawals must be made in writing and submitted to wwloch@clcillinois.edu.
Applicants will receive notice of acceptance into the program no later than September 30.
