Study Abroad: Peru

Peru: An immersive culinary and hospitality experience

May 18 to June 7, 2026

Participate in Culinary or Hospitality Management classes held at a Peruvian university to learn about local cuisine and hosting practices.

Attend one of two courses for three credits total:

  • HCM 159-585 – Culinary Art in Peru (3 credit hours) OR

Work alongside Peruvian chefs to learn the techniques and flavor profiles used in Peruvian cooking. Spend time in lab and lecture classes to learn what differentiates American-style and Peruvian cuisine. Learn hands-on in the college kitchens to create Peruvian dishes and develop the flavors frequently used in Peruvian cooking.

  • HCM 159-586 – Hospitality Management in Peru (3 credit hours)
  • Explore the different front-of-house service techniques used in Peruvian hospitality settings and learn how these services differ from those in the U.S. You'll also explore different beverage pairings to accompany the traditional foods offered in Peru.

    Cost: $5,500*

    *Trip cost subject to change due to unanticipated changes in currency exchange rate, airline and accommodation variations.

    • College of Lake County tuition and fees

    Have your passport ready, the contact information for two CLC instructors to serve as your references (must be different from the faculty leaders), and a short statement of purpose to demonstrate why you’d like to study abroad in this program.

    Apply Online via the Education Abroad Portal

    After submitting your application, an in-person payment of $500 must promptly be made at the Welcome and One Stop Center to secure your spot. Then, faculty will schedule an interview with you to finalize the application process.

    Withdrawal information: Your deposit and other fees are refundable if you withdraw from the program no later than December 5, 2025. Withdrawals must be made in writing and submitted to wwloch@clcillinois.edu.

    Applicants will receive notice of acceptance into the program no later than December 11.
