National Exams

Each college/university has its own policy regarding which CLEP exams will be accepted for credit, as well as how much credit will be awarded for a CLEP exam.

Anyone may register to take a CLEP exam at the College of Lake County. However, CLC grants CLC course credit for CLEP exams only to students enrolled at CLC. Students hoping to transfer credit earned through CLEP to another school should check with the transfer school to determine its policy toward earning credit-by-exam before registering to take their CLEP exam at CLC.

The College of Lake County offers its students the opportunity to earn college credit for many CLEP exams.

College of Lake County Board Policy states that earning credit-by exam is:

• Not to exceed a total of thirty (30) semester hours required toward the completion of an Associate degree
• Not to exceed one-half (1/2) of the semester hours required toward completion of a certificate
• Not to count toward satisfying fifteen (15) semester hours general residency requirement for the Associate degree

Please note: Earning credit-by-exam through CLEP has no effect on a student’s grade point average (GPA) at CLC.

Step 1: CLEP Registration and Payment

• Must be done before registering for your exam appointment.
• Create an account on “My Account” via https://clep.collegeboard.org/
• Register/prepay for your CLEP exam (You may also purchase study materials for CLEP at the link above).
• During registration, designate where your scores should be sent. (Your score report will be sent to one school at no additional cost, provided you select the school online prior to your exam. Requests for score transcripts made after the start of testing require fee payment to CLEP).
• Print your CLEP Exam Registration Ticket. (You will receive an email confirming your registration along with other pre/post-test day reminders).
• Your ticket number will be your voucher number when registering for your appointment on RegisterBlast (see Step 2).

Step 2: CLC Payment and Scheduling

Grayslake, Lakeshore and Southlake Campuses

• All appointments are made via the RegisterBlast system. Your ticket number is your voucher number.
• Pay $23.50 registration fee to CLC via RegisterBlast (non-refundable and non-transferrable).
• At Grayslake, CLEP exams are available on Tuesdays at 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 6 p.m.
• At Lakeshore, CLEP exams are available on Mondays at 6 p.m.
• At Southlake, appointments can be scheduled Monday through Saturday. Call (847) 543-6544.
• Testing spaces are limited to availability and scheduling is done on a first come-first served basis. To ensure availability of testing, it is recommended that you schedule well in advance.

Great Lakes Naval Base

• Active duty military should call the Lakeshore Campus Testing Center in Waukegan for information about scheduling at Great Lakes. Military personnel testing at any other CLC location are subject to the standard CLEP fees as listed above.

Step 3: Test Day

You will need to bring:

• Registration ticket (Printed from CLEP website)
• One form of acceptable photo identification (See below)

Acceptable forms of ID

• Must be a government-issued photo ID
• Current Passport
• Valid Driver’s License
• State or Province ID from the motor vehicle agency
• Military ID
• National ID
• A tribal ID card
• A naturalization card or certificate of citizenship

Unacceptable forms of ID

• Credit or Debit Cards of any kind
• Social Security Card
• Employee ID
• Student ID
• Any other ID not listed

Please note:  In order to take a scheduled CLEP exam, the ID presented by the candidate must be from the above list of acceptable forms of ID, must be current (not expired) and must include the candidate’s name, signature, and recognizable photograph.

CLC grants CLC course credit for IB exams only to students enrolled at CLC. Students hoping to transfer credit earned through IB to another school should check with the transfer school to determine its policy toward earning credit-by-exam. Results of IB exams may be sent to another school at which a student is enrolled for the purposes of credit recognition. Information regarding how to obtain/send official IB scores and transcripts can be found at the International Baccalaureate website.

The College of Lake County offers its students the opportunity to earn college credit for a variety of IB exams.
