Students on study abroad trip Published September 13, 2024

Expand your horizons while exploring a new culture by studying abroad at College of Lake County (CLC) in 2025. Students can visit countries across Europe and Asia, with five short-term trips planned.

“In the modern world, the workforce is multicultural and multinational,” said Director of Global Engagement Dr. Voytek Wloch. “Studies show that when students don't get exposure to that when they study, they have more trouble assimilating into the work environment. Through its direct engagement with otherness, study abroad is indeed an important professional development trip.”

The 2025 study abroad trips and corresponding courses include:

  • United Arab Emirates, Jan. 10-19, 2025, Introduction to Anthropology. The application deadline is Sept. 27.
  • Ireland, March 21-30, 2025, Global Business with focus on Ireland. The application deadline is Nov. 15.
  • France/Italy, May 19-31, 2025, Culinary Arts. The application deadline is Nov. 29.
  • Poland, May 19 to June 1, 2025, Diversity in Schools and Society and Modern Europe II with emphasis on Eastern Europe in the 20th Century. The application deadline is Nov. 29.
  • Japan, May 17 to June 7, 2025, Introduction to Creative Writing. The application deadline is Nov. 29.

Most of these programs happen either every year or every couple of years thanks to partnerships CLC has made with institutions in the countries. This will be the first year that CLC will have a trip to Poland, with hopes to make it a regular destination.

While the classroom portion of the trip is the focus, cultural components are built into the curriculum. Lots of exploring is done in groups, though there is some time during the trips for students to explore on their own.

To be eligible for the programs, you must register to be a CLC student, be 18 years old before the departure date of the program and have a passport for international travel. The trips are financial aid eligible, and scholarship applications are also available.
